Launch Press Release - 21st December 2005
Sixty million pounds of gift vouchers given this Christmas will never be
redeemed
• This Christmas, over 700 million pounds' worth of gift vouchers will be given
as presents, but one in twelve people still have unused vouchers leftover from
last year.
• December 21st sees the launch of the Unwanted Voucher Service. This
service will sell or swap any
gift vouchers that you’ve got sitting at home.
It is an unfortunate truth of the festive season that we don’t always end up
getting quite what we’d hoped for. However, the Unwanted Voucher Service (www.unwantedvoucher.co.uk), launched today,
could change all that.
Recent research carried out by the Unwanted Voucher Service indicates that this
Christmas up to 60 million pounds' worth of vouchers given as gifts will never
be redeemed (1). According to Dominic Keen from the Unwanted Voucher
Service – “We’ve all had that sinking feeling when we don’t quite get what we
hoped for at Christmas time. By launching the Unwanted Voucher Service ,
we hope we can make things a little merrier for everyone this year.”
The Unwanted Voucher Service buys the gift vouchers that people don’t want. They
deal with over forty different types of high-street gift voucher, including ones
from Marks & Spenser, Argos and WHSmith. Their service also makes it
easy to swap vouchers for those that you’d prefer to have – so, if your Grandma always
gives you book tokens for Christmas, you can now swap them for the fashion
vouchers that you really want.
